This project aims at examining education and research on the potential, challenges and policy issues regarding renewable energy, whose contribution to energy security and climate change mitigation is highly expected. The project has two major components: setting up a Chair on renewable energy and public policy; and conducting a study group on such issues as cost comparison of renewable energy and other energy sources as well as implications on industry by expanding renewable use. This project is expected to cultivate well-balanced expertise and a policy mindset on the potential and challenge of renewable energy, to nurture next-generation leaders on Japan’s energy strategy in both public and private sectors, and to provide useful input to renewable energy policies in Japan.
